Chicago Public Schools: Really?

I would like more than a magazine article before I accept that the performance of Whitney Young is _orders of magnitude_ below Payton and Northside. WYHS has an excellent reputation. Simply not making some magazine's list is a pretty spotty way to judge quality.

For example the city-data school page rates Northside and Payton 100, and Young a 99.

As I said earlier, Lane and others have very good reps as well. I can only compare them to suburban schools in that my acquaintances who went there have not struggled in undergrad or graduate school any more than my acquaintances who went to places like OPRF or New Trier.

They are not for geniuses only but they are selective, require parental involvement and don't tolerate any discipline issues. At least Walter Payton HS is like that.
