International Relations in Chicago?
Is there much job market for International Relations stuff in Chicago... I would really like to relocate back there... but thinking I might be better off in DC/NYC... how does Chicago compete in the global political arena...I'm talking NGO's, geopolitics, etc. ? I'm doing a masters in IR and hoping can get something in Chicago... if not DC will be fine I'm sure but... would much rather be in Chi

London would actually be ideal...don't know that Chicago is big on the International Political scene.
Actually, you should try to apply for a job with the federal gov't and then go where they send you.

yeah, london and geneva are up there... would possibly relocate...but don't really want to leave the u.s. I am actually doing a semester in London as part of my masters... so, will see what I can do from there.
a friend of mine works for the british embassy in chicago and is regularly in/out of london... I am going to see what I can do as far as that goes... but, we'll see...
anybody else want to chime in? looking for a glimmer of hope but think I already know the answer and career advancement will be much better outside of chicago.

A semester isn't going to do it, mate. You need to get your masters at Aberwyswith...I know that I am not spelling it right, but, it is the University that is in Wales, the #1 IR school in the world.
My son had his IR training at Keele University in Staffordshire, England (#2 IR school in the world)

There are at least a few Consulates in Chicago. And the Chicago Board of Trade might be able to use an International Relations skill set, along with any other multi-national company that does business in countries all over the world (and of course, Chicago has many of these). If you want to work in Chicago with your International Relations background, there are definitely opportunities.

Actually, it's not as difficult as you would think....check them out. (spell it right, first!) You will be surprised at how cheap it is.

If you are interested in a career in international relations, you should know that embassies are in the capital city of a given country. Consulates are in other major cities. I think I knew that by the time I was in jr. high.

Yes I misspoke, but no need to tout about yourself rudely... its a late post, its an internet forum, etc.
Anyway, it is the UKTI @ British Consulate-General Chicago...
Cheers and thanks for the other answers.
