She won the position in the famous three-way squeeze. That made her qualified.

Not as a senator. She won. Not as an ambassador -- many senators go on to that; Mike Mansfield, Fritz Mondale etc.

The question is as to Fitzgerald. 98 of his colleagues thought differently. OK, he beat her. Now, on a collegial basis he can't support this sinecure? He's that interested in the last pound of flesh?
I think it shows he's kind of small. I'm glad he's retired to Inglenook, or Isinglass, or wherever he's from.
“Mr. Fitzgerald was also the only Republican to vote against his own party's spending package this spring, and irked the White House by announcing that President Bush had told him he would assassinate Saddam Hussein if given the opportunity. He has fought the Chicago business community over expansion of O'Hare International Airport and has icy relations with Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, one of the state's most prominent Republicans.
Mr. Fitzgerald, the first Illinois senator to bow out after one term since the 1930's, said he was confident he would have won in 2004, pointing to a poll his campaign conducted last week that showed he would beat all the prominent Democrats considering the race. But only 45 percent of the 600 people surveyed said he deserved re-election, and he was favored by 43 percent to 52 percent in the various head-to-head matchups, low for an incumbent. “

You know, I think we were on Fitzgerald. Carol was a US attorney, a state legislator, a county official and really a good lawyer. There were obviously a number of people who felt she was qualified -- she won the election.
This puts her in a far different status than Stroger.
You should have stated what you thought were her lack of qualifications. Fitzgerald (who we had been discussing) was what? A surburban representative? Of what accomplishment? Did he ever hold a job where he did not start by having a relative for a supervisor?

I'm not sure what's better, that he lied about the donation, or that Blago was still seeking "campaign" contributions in January.

I think both facts are equally repulsive.

The negative press has all but guaranteed that the Burris era will be a short one. He has NO CHANCE in 2010--even if many black leaders do support him.

Burris said he wasn't asked directly about pay-to-play
Burris says statements were consistent - CNN.com
During January 8th's testimony, Burris is saying that he wasn't asked directly if he had been asked to contribute in order to secure his seat.
We'll see how this pans out next week.

I hope there is a good challenger for his seat in the Dem primary next year.
