<<I think Rod should have appointed the cardinal. Then what would the senate do? >>
The Vatican would nix it and not allow him to accept. Wasn't Father Robert Drinan a member of the house from Massachusetts, and resigned at the request of Rome ..
Not sure what Burris's angle is ... he's getting up there, and this is his possible last chance for some ink, although the circumstances are a bit strange ..
This could go on for a while .. If the Senate refuses to seat him, a possible lawsuit w/ The Supreme Court deciding ( remember Adam Clayton Powell ..and he was elected to the house) ...and Jesse White says he'll refuse to certify the appointment under his seal ( which itself might be a lawsuit/violation of his constitutional duties)...Combine this with an impeachment process that's really vague ..
Hmmm.. he's in office ..lots of folks voted for him..are we getting the theater we deserve ??

Because the Black "mafia" ( Bobby the Booby Rush, assorted preachers,Emil Jones, Jesse Jackson Jr.,etc...) are going to attempt to force the next Governor to appoint Burris as well.
You heard it here first.
RB is well liked by Quinn,Jesse White, and a host of others.

Blago needs to be committed to an insane asylum. This man has now lost all his mental faculties.

Yeah, I do believe RB is well liked. But to accept a position which is clouded in such controversy...There is obviously much we don't know.

I heard an interesting analogy on talk radio this afternoon. Roland Burris has always had aspirations to something bigger than state politics....he is like the guy who always wanted to captain the ship, but was never selected. Now the ship is about to hit an iceberg and he's ready to take the helm. Kind of sad and pathetic, really.
I think he was well liked, but he actually does not look well.

This is all one needs to know:
"Play it across the table
What if we steal this city blind?
If they want anything, let 'em nail it down.
Harness bulls,dicks,front office men,
And the high goats upon the bench,
Ain't they all in cahoots?
Ain't it fifty-fifty all down the line?"

Funny that you noticed that. They are all members of a black secret society called the Sigma Pi Phi Boule. Of course they support each others interest.

Question is, on what authority? The Senate does not get to choose its own members. He meets the constitutional qualifications and was duly appointed so they can't really stop him. I have more hope in Jesse White's refusal to certify the appointment, though I'm not clear on his state constitutional authority to refuse to certify a duly appointed Senate appointee.

Well, what else does the guy have going on in his life? It's not like he had any future political ambitions to be tainted by accepting this position. He hasn't been in office for, what, 15 years or something? It's a win-win: Blago gets to continue being a defiant a-hole, and Burris' political career is temporarily revived without him having to lift a finger, plus he has no worries about how this will affect his political future, because he already had none. And I bet that Congressional pension won't bother Burris too much either.

It's not really odd when you think about it. There's only one set of people who would accept this nomination: those with nothing to lose. That's Burris; his political career was already over before this appointment.
