I'm moving to Chicago in less than two weeks. I'll be in town this weekend to look at apartments. I've been primarily looking in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview areas, as I'll be working there and like the culture but I'm curious to know more about Logan Square, Wicker Park and Bucktown. They all appear to be relatively close to where I'll be working (on Belmont in Lincoln Park), but I don't know anything about them. Hopefully someone reading this can help me out. Are they good places for a single, straight 26 year old guy who likes to hit up the bars on the weekend, but is pretty laid back during the week? Or are they more of family type neighborhoods? Thanks in advance. Any info would be appreciated.

I just moved into Bucktown, about a block from the North & Damen intersection, and I really love it here. Only problem is, there are way too many bars and great clothing shops within too close a distance! I'm going to get into trouble.

You know you can do a search of the forum. Plenty has been written about these areas already!

Also, no part of Belmont Ave runs through Lincoln Park! Who told you the part of Belmont you will be working at is in Lincoln Park?

Oh really? Is it Lakeview then? Looked like Lakeview on the map, but I was told Lincoln Park and I'm not from there so I went with that!

Bucktown and Wicker Park are quite a bit more gentrified than Logan Square, and are thus more expensive. Logan Square is still largely a Puerto Rican and Mexican neighborhood--though it is rapidly changing.

Yeah, Belmont runs through Lakeview, not Lincoln Park. Anyhow, Logan Square, Wicker Park and Bucktown may look close to Lakeview on a map, and I suppose in reality they are. But the commute times from these neighborhoods to Lakeview would be a lot longer than one might conclude just from looking at how close they are on a map. I wouldn't rule those neighborhoods out just because of that, especially since you'll very likely get more apartment for your buck over there than in Lakeview. But it is something to keep in mind that a commute from those areas to Lakeview could take up to half an hour or more.

That's good info to know. Probably a bit too long of a commute for my liking. Thanks! Lakeview/Lincoln Park it is then!

Agreed, plus there's no direct train line running from Wicker Park/Bucktown/Logan Square to Lincoln Park and Lakeview.
