Al of the work space studios for rent that I've seen specifically say no living in them for some reason or another.

Also is anyone of fan of going out to shows? What would be a moderate club to see a moderate band play and i'm not talking bands with their own economy ie. Coldplay, U2 and list goes on. I guess Indie clubs....Im sure they're scattered about but a central location to those places would lay(lie) where?

The tightest cluster of indie clubs are concentrated in the Ukranian Village/Bucktown/Wicker Park corridor. They include Empty Bottle, Dark Room, Subterranean, Double Door (Sub and Double Door are practically across the street from each other), Gallery Caberet, and The Hideout. Others scattered around town include Elbo Room (Lincoln Park), Beat Kitchen (Roscoe Village), Logan Square Auditorium (Logan Square), The Whistler (Logan Square), Abbey Pub (Irving Park), Schuba's (Lakeview), Martyr's (St. Ben's), The Kinetic Playground (Uptown), Cobra Lounge (West Loop, specializes in hard rock/metal bands), and Reggie's (South Loop).
Larger venues that host national touring acts (but not "their own economy" bands -- think bands like Primus or Death Cab for Cutie or Franz Ferdinand or the like) are Riviera and Aragon in Uptown (basically across the street from each other), The Vic in Lakeview, Park West in Lincoln Park, House of Blues in River North, and Congress Theater in Logan Square. Metro in Lakeview kind of straddles the area between indie acts and national touring acts.

Here's a few other places. Some (not all) of these are a bit more dive-ish.
The Bottom Lounge (Near West), Quenchers (Bucktown/Logan Square border), The Mutiny (almost across the street from Quenchers, specializes in punk), Silvie's (North Center), Phyllis' Musical Inn (Wicker Park/East Village border), Martyrs (North Center).
