Bar Louie's on Polk (Dearborn Station) is not even in the Loop.
that may be true. I'm not on campus, but a lot of the time I hung out w/ people that lived on campus, we went to Bar Louie (granted, I do like the 5 for $5 deal on beer so maybe that's why I always tagged along to this place!).
I have no earthly clue anymore where the "Loop" begins or end, but that's a whole 'nother topic for another thread
There's beauty in the solace of not giving a damn.

We're talking about someone who's about to graduate high school. can they even get into Bar Louie?

yes, people under 21 can enter (I've been there w/ a few underage people and have done my part to corrupt them ). I think I've seen kids there as well
ETA: I forge the OP is underage. he's going to have a tougher time finding places to go, but I assume Chicago as at least a couple of under 21 clubs (isn't 0 Gravity one? no clue where it is though)
What was it Memorial Day? I find this VERY VERY VERY hard to believe.
No, it was like the weekend of the gay parade. No one was out but maby a few others coming from the sears tower but there where a few dozen people along the park eating out...

Well a lot of people were probably at Pride. I'm not gay, but I've had a good time at Pride several years.
Nevertheless, we all stand by the assertion that there is a lot going on in Chicago, especially during the summer. The thing is, most people simply don't live downtown. Even if there were a lot going on downtown, it'd be tough to say "Oh! HERE the Chicagoans are!" because a lot of those people could be from the burbs or from somewhere else, altogether.
I'm from Indianapolis and for the longest time i've set my sites on New York City. Now that i'm almost out of high school i was thinking about going to columbia collge, one reason being so close to home, and then going to NY.I want to know what the student life is like at Columbia, and in the city. I keep hearing that chicago's downtown is kinda dull, i also recall a time when i was down there on a firday night and saw one person on a downtown street in the summer... I has taken me a year to get over that fact that their is more than NY than just manhattan so i still need some convinceing on chicago. What's the urban life like outside the loop?
If you need convincing on moving to Chicago, then don't move here. You will be sorry. Chicago IMO is EXTREMELY dull. Unless you just can't get enough shopping, eatting out, working out, seeing movies, maybe seeing a museum or two then Chicago's not for you. The nightlife scene is ok, but not the best in the country, the arts are better than most cities, but still not as good as NY's. Prices are right on Par with NYC in basically everything you buy or do now, yet you get half what NY has to offer The climate is similar to NY's, yet a tad bit harsher. As for the activeness on NY's streets vs Chicago's there is NO comparision. After being in NYC and coming back to this, it just seems like I'm entering Sleepy Hollow or something. I agree, there has been numerous times where I was the only one on the street here other than the homeless people that are out wandering around in a drunken stuper leaving me to feel a little uncomfortable. No doubt, I always felt more safe in Manhattan than here. I always said, who is going to mug you when there are 100 sets of eyes on the mugger vs. here where the only set of eyes watching the mugger is the muggee! Hmmm which city would you mug someone in?

Notice a difference? I guess if your on fire this is the place to be!
So basically, if you boil down what this joker is prattling on about, there is plenty to do in Chicago, albeit not quite as much as there is in NYC. (Except for the nonsense about prices even being remotely similar. NYC isn't as expensive as some make it out to be, but that's only if you know where to look for bargains. On average, it's FAR more expensive.)
I've gotta know: Do we really need another NYC vs Chicago thread? Does anyone need that garbage? Chicago's better for me. NYC's better for "NYRules"... clearly. Why he/she doesn't move back to NYC is positively beyond me.

Family is the reason I'm here. Thats what keeps me here. And if you still are as ignorant to think Chicago's prices arent right on tap with NY's now with our buddy Daley and Stroger in office looking for everyway possible to stick it to everyone, then you need to seriously get back to the east coast and then come back here to compare. Mass transit is the same price yet WAY better there, food costs right about the same, gas is higher here in many cases, rent very similar., taxes here now are the same as in NY, everywhere you go here its a toll road just like there with their bridges.
People go on about how Manhattan is about two-three dollars a square foot per month in rent... Well guess what it is here in Streeterville and Gold Coast and Lincoln Park areas, areas simliar to Manhattan... What $1.50-$1.75-$2.00- higher per sq ft.? Wow what a savings! Tuition there is right on par with what it is here. Columbia Chicago now with housing is around $20k a year including books.. It may be a tad bit higher, but again its about the same as the tuition in Manhattan. Over there it may be $4K a year more. Big deal with it being that high, whats another 4 grand? So yes this JOKER is saying Chicago is basically half everything NY is, only for 85% of the price.
Oh and get used to it on this board OP if you say ANYTHING negative about precious Chicago be prepared to hear nothing but negative remarks and the attitude as you can see is then you should move back to NY or something stupid like that instead of realizing everyone is entitled to their opinion and doesn't realize that for a youngster looking for the super fast paced lifestyle, Chicago is not the place for that. For settling down and raising a family sure, this place is great, but for leading the party lifestyle that many college aged folks are looking for, there are a few places to look in the US and they are on the east and west coasts, not in between.
