But its all but impossible to build any new residential streets of that width, in the idea that its 'unsafe'.

We've also given too much urban design power to fire departments. They freak out if they don't have a super-wide street to drive their ladder trucks down, and have been successful in getting wide streets and turning radii codified.

Yes, that was also mentioned, with the irony being that many departments who mandate this do not have the structures to justify the size of their biggest ladder trucks.

Well, after seeing a fire in Pittsburgh where a house burned down as the owners waited for the fire department which had park two blocks away and roll their hoses down the hill, I'd say maybe their concerns might be legitimate.

Don't know why you even asked if I drove in New York, since I figure you could assume that from my previous post. Unless you think I am lying, but why would I do that

I've seen some of your posts. You miss Chicago hotdogs like it was the highest form of cuisine and not a plain vanilla Vienna dog on bun. I know you live in New York and I bet you use your turn signals in the city unless you drive a yellow cab and originally came from Pakistan.
Why didn't you move to New Jersey, you would feel more at home there?

Im so hurt, but thanks im glad you find me interesting enough to view my post history, than as a rebuttle to driving patterns in both cities, post something from a completely different topic. By not even acknowledging what I mentioned in my previous post, you pretty much just confimred that all your driving "observations" are completely baseless.
But I did live in NJ for a year, and it wasnt for me. NY is more my style, but Chicago feels like home. And Chicago Hotdogs are not the highest form of cuisine, that distinct honor belongs to Italian Beef (dipped, hot).

That's Chicago mentality, take something trivial and make a claim greatness. That's why the country laughs at you.
Anyways, you live in New York and claim not to use your blinkers? Is this correct?

Perhaps you should be a bit more humble and not claim that you speak for the entire country. That's why we laugh at you.

I don't know. Everyone who visits us here in Chicago or that I meet when I'm traveling tells me how they love Chicago. But maybe they're all lying to me just to be polite. It's probably a big conspiracy to boost the fragile ego of Chicagoans.

If it makes you feel better, I do use blinkers in NYC just like every other place I drive in. Not all the time especially when im changing lanes really quickly in the city. I see other drivers on the road who use blinkers and don't use blinkers. This was the same as I was in Chicago. I dont see either city as having more civil drivers than the other; its just a part of big city driving.
I don't know how you came up with that delusional conclusion about Chicago greatness. Lets not get off topic here; its just a driving thread; you need to settle down, really. If someone disagrees with you, then deal with it logically.
