You see cornfields out in suburbs there, and in general there are so many businesses starting with "Midwest (mortgage, bank, karate, etc)."

Are you one those "city only" people? I'm not denying it's a megacity, but it's not coastal America either.

Also, because it's on the easternmost border of the central time zone, it seems to get dark earlier than it should

This is absolutely true! It makes the winters seem tougher than they really are. In Dec/Jan I don't really see the sun because I'm in my cubicle during all the sunlight hours. Of course, i could live in Alaska ...

Default What I dislike about Chicago

Parking is a headache (dining room furniture in the street when it snows, etc). The police and city government officials have an awful reputation and are always making the national news. The city is segregated racially. The schools are not great. Housing in good areas is small and expensive. Traffic is horrible. Jobs are scarce. Fed jobs are more scarce. Taxes are too high. Crime is a huge problem. It is too cold in the winter. Flights at Ohare are often delayed.

Doubt if you must, but you'd be wrong. See here, here, here, and here.

Chicago is in the Midwest, what do you expect them to start with?

Um, nobody claimed it's a coastal city. I think most people here really do not care about that.

Chicago has problems, and no it's not perfect, but it is a great city, and a world class city. If you fail to see that, it's your problem. </quote>

Right. "I am an elephant if you fail to see that it is your problem"
Strange logic. I asked many times, if Chicago is so great and world-class give me some examples, some supporting evidence to this claim. And put yourself in perspective of some other global, world-class cities like London, Paris or New York.

Oh, and good going on insulting all the cities in the Midwest, none of which I'm sure you've ever lowered yourself to vvisit.. Do you consider everything west of Philadelphia "flyover country"?</quote>

No. I never used that term in my life. But I have been to St. Louis, Indy and Milwaukee and I dot not see a reason to visit these towns again.
If I missed something then point it out. Give me some reasons to visit them again or point how many milions of national and international visitors these cities get in a year and then post the numbers for Boston, Philly and DC My original point, well in sync with the topic, was that there is not much worth seeing or visiting within a driving distance from Chicago. Hardly any weekend getaways. The city is in the middle of nowhere and living here feels isolated. That's what I do not like about Chicago.

Why do I, or anyone else here have to provide you with "evidence" that Chicago is a world class city? You wouldn't believe it anyway. You dislike much more about Chicago then just this, as your posts across this forum have shown. It's just tiring to see. Nobody's gonna convince you to like Chicago, and you're not gonna convince anyone here to dislike Chicago. Honestly, I'm just going to ignore your posts from now on. It's not worth it.

The reason you are receiving so much hostility around here is because you just showed up and started bashing the city. I think people would respect your opinions more if you could just describe why you really are here. You clearly dislike Chicago. Are you here because of a job? A spouse? What motivated you to arrive in the first place? Do you plan on staying long term, or leaving at the first opportunity?

If you truly dont like Chicago, I have zero problem with that. It dosent matter to me one way or another. Honestly, there are a lot of US cities I'm not fond of either. But I dont feel the need to hang around their boards constantly putting them down. Where is this vitriol coming from?
