I don't ride the red line very often, but recently I noticed that at the latest maps the Washington stop is no longer labeled as being "under construction" but simply has been removed from the maps.
However I couldn't find any offical info from the CTA about it, the best I found was some interview from fall 08 when someone stated there's is no currently no time line as when to reopen.
Given that it already looked like work has been abadonded a year ago I'm wondering if they'll ever reopen the station?

The station closing was associated with a construction project that appears to be stalled. I don't know if it is that important to have a stop at Washington given there is one at State/Lake, and one at Monroe. It is, however, a major disruption in the underground walkway system that connects to points east.

It was mothballed.

Kreusi fudged that project beyond belief, wasting tens of millions of taxpayer dollars. He is now chief lobbyist for the city.

Wow, the station appears to have been removed from all maps and information on WWW.CHICAGOTRANSIT.COM

Are they really ditching Washington!?!? Or is it just a prolonged closure due to this mess, but expected to re-open?

I saw that picture when I was a kid, John Agar was in it. Probably saw it at the Byrd at Cicero and Madison.

I love how we just lose a downtown major "L" station without any sort of publicity. I knew the giant "super station" with express trains to O'Hare was mothballed, but did this have to take out the existing Washington station as well?

It will probably reopen at some point in the future.

I'm betting 5 years.
