But my experience in Chicago is that strangers at bars and on the streets and in stores always mingle and talk with one another. Especially on the train. I can safely say every experience in Chicago the people I knew certainly weren't introverted. So I disagree with you on that. But enough comparisons. Let's get back to talking about Chicago.
I was talking about Chicago. I have to disagree with your view too. For one thing, Chicago doesn't have a 'big blue collar' crowd. The 'Lookoutkid' put it perfect when he said working at Wal-Mart isn't really 'blue collar'.

Most the white people (I'm white), I ever came across in Chicago, were either yuppies or Eastern Euro immigrants. I like drinking around and talking to people of other races don't get me wrong (especially women). But sitting on a barstool next to an illegal Mexican immigrant who doesn't (or barely) speaks english ain't too much fun. Remember now, NYC is more than just Mannhattan! There are 4 other boroughs there.

The 'OP' is a professional, so maybe he'll fit right in. I know there are pockets in the city of 'blue collar nabes'. But there are far and few between, and probably are very car dependent areas. I like Chicago, I really do. I just think that there's a very boring vibe to the place (especially the bar scene). That's my opinon on Chicago, for better or worse.

You obviously never been to Houston; Chicago will seem much more "lively" after visiting Houston.

I want to go to Houston. Of course I don't expect Chicago, but I did hear Houston was underrated.

I strongly disagree with his opinion about blue collar in Chicago and the openness of the people in the city (Chicago is probably THE blue collar and talkative city in the nation) but it's his opinion, and he can have it.
