Right. And have you tried unloading a $1.5 million dollar 1/1 recently?
This isn't very surprising. I remember when the weather stations would outright ignore Indiana. There'd be metropolitan weather reports for the entire region... Except Indiana.
Does anyone else remember that? There'd be that large blurb or graphic over the bordering state. How bizarre.
Considering that a lot of our news is generated by people who live in the 'burbs, I don't think this is too surprising.

Nothing says "I'm not really from Chicago proper" like a heated debate over where "Wrigleyville" is. The fact that the official neighborhood map ultimtately followed the lead of tourists, Lincoln Park Trixie/Chad types, drunken Cub fans who hail from Schaumburg, etc and adopted the label is cringeworthy.

That's why I put "Wrigleyville" in quotes. I don't really use the term. To me, "Wrigleyville" is a strip of bars, not a neighborhood.
Note that "real Chicagoan" Avengerfire also puts "Wrigleyville" in quotes, and insists on calling the greater neighborhood "Lake View" instead of "Lakeview". Perhaps you would prefer "New Town" kramer1?

I'm in college, and when people ask where I'm from I say Chicago. Twice so far they followed through with "Chicago proper or suburbs?" I'm slightly impressed - people are learning more about this city. But then when they asked exactly where in Chicago, I mention North Center and I get blank stares, with that I just respond "It's right next to "Wrigleyville"" and suddenly we're all good.
Edit: One time a girl asked, with eyes practically poking out of head, if I lived in one of the skyscrapers. I proceeded in explaining the different neighborhoods, but she was lost within the minute, so I just said, "Yea, those skyscrapers are AWESOME."

I would imaging many people that go there are not from the Chicago area. That is part of the problem.

Contrary to belief, there are many students that are from the Chicagoland here at EIU. It's about an hour away from U of I were most of the student population are from said area, so it makes sense. Out of the two who asked me one was from Schaumburg and the other from the southwest suburbs.

Let me rephrase: Many students are not from Chicago-the city.

Any somewhat reputable college would need students from outside the city. Outside of a handful of great schools, CPS largely produces idiots who can't handle even lightly challenging college coursework.
