I was actually surprised at how low Chicago's crime rating was compared to some other places that I thought were a lot safer. I walked around Orlando and Sarasota fl, and took the public buses without a second thought and those places have a higher crime rating (300-ish points higher) than Chicago. Although I guess when a guy on one of the buses in Sarasota threatened to hit me in the head with his hammer I should have taken that as a clue...

Chicago isn't even in the top 20 for violent crime rates nationally. People focus on the murder tally, but that only proves that we have more murders per capita than L.A. or New York. It says nothing about the dozens of smaller cities with higher per capita murder rates.

Chicago is corrupt. The only city I have heard of being more corrupt than Chicago is NOLA. Plus, I was almost murdered there after getting lost on the wrong exit, I was rescued by a cop that escorted me out and told me I was lucky.

I moved to New Orleans in August, and granted I love this city but I will be moving back home when the economy is back to stable again.

Crime in Chicago is a JOKE compared to here, the mayor is a genius/saint and the police actually work to protect people.
The murder rate in New Orleans is so high that we're #3 in the world behind Cape town and Caracass. Do the math on that one.

There are many wonderful aspects about my life here like not having snow etc but seriously, the speed and functionality is something that I miss.

I was given a traffic ticket a few weeks ago and it's still not online or in their records. So, if I don't show up to court and waste a whole day of my time, I'll get hauled in by a nola cop and wind up in OPP, which makes Cook County seem like daycamp.

Scary, but true.

All and all, I miss the hell out of Chicago.

We have a lifestyle that's unique to Chicago, and that's what makes us special. Although I may have started abusing crack to deal with the stress of the constant police raids, parking tickets, and the zombies, there's many unique things that make it all worth it.

The critical food shortages have really created a sense of community that was never here before. Like the other day, at 7am when the siren keening of the undead finally abated? My neighbor knocked to let me know that it was time to go foraging.

She knocked. I challenge you to find that kind of politeness in any other city.

And while foraging for food, water, and crack, we help each other in this city. We never go it alone. If I need a few saltine crackers to stave off the growling hunger pains that so agonizingly alert the hellish minions that prowl the night streets, I know I can ask anyone. Water? We can go to the lake together. Crack? We'll light up together, bro.

That's what you find here in Chicago: community, strength, resolve, crack.

And if this doesn't point out how ridiculous this thread is, well, I may need to actually buy crack.
Someone has been watching I Am Legend a little too much lately.

There are many cities with worse governance than Chicago. There are probably many with better governance and less corruption than Chicago.

You can compare Chicago to smaller through per capita crime rates. Look into the study of statistics, it's a good basic concept to understand.
