the cosmo thing was about how the guys in chicago seem to think they can have whatever girl they want and dont have to work very hard for it. Guys in chicago topped the list of the "guys who disappear instead of breaking up with you face to face" type of guys, the ones who just stop calling and give no reason for it.

it had nothing to do with them being rich enough...quite the opposite, more like them feeling too entitled to date supermodel type women just because they make money.

anyway....I wont try to reason with you on this point anymore...just stating what the article was about. but generally....women in the midwest are among the least likely to judge a guy based on his income....I think the west and east coast are bit more famous for that.

Here....its more like girls will just fall for anything and thats why the guys feel so entitled.... sorry....

but anyway, yes, there is a place outisde of chicago called illinois. Its worth exploring if chicago is bringing you down and you cant move away yet.

If not, then youll see what a big city is really like. And these damn bums on the el, would someone do something about that. Please.

Thank you for your insightful post. It's very doubtful that you were born and raised along the Gulf Coast. Apparently, you are in SC? I'm from the impoverished Gulf Coast side- the deep dirty south if you will. The crappy job market stretches all the way from New Orleans, through MS Gulf Coast, Mobile and Pensacola. If you aspire to be a stripper or a bartender, you may make a decent living.

Cromag, to get back to your original post, try checking out the northwest side of the city. Neighborhoods like Norwood Park, Jefferson Park, Edison Park(best area in my opinion), Gladstone Park. You have the Blue line EL, Metra railway, and Kennedy Expressway right on your doorstep. They are safe middleclass (and upper middle class) neighborhoods which you could probably find something in your price range. You are close to downtown yet still have alot of great restuarants, bars, forest preserves-whatever your in to. Good Luck.

If I have Tourette's then that must mean some of you have dyslexia. rgb123 I'm going to try this one more time: I am MIDDLE CLASS and your comment esp. directed toward the rich ones further proves my point. Based upon personal observation, and I had friends there and acquaintances, men there have to lower their standards if they want any form of companionship, UNLESS THEY ARE RICH. The rich ones all almost always corrupt, since that's the only way I know of to get a good job there besides having an Ivy League degree.

Skigirl as my last post said, I am bitter of course. Why wouldn't I be? I busted my ass in my field for ten years, three of them in Chicago, and my last job with a major real estate brokerage firm had me ****ing sending DHL packages and building server racks like a little *****, all because of the jagoff (nice Chicago word there) I worked with and me not pretending I like the goddam St Louis Cards baseball team, or that borefest of a sport for that matter. I am bitter, angry and was unfulfilled every moment I lived in that city, and thank every day that I'm out of there.

I chose not to go the route of "second best" in that place and I beat the odds people gave me every day, I can go on but there were many people in my life who wanted me at or near the bottom and I gave them all the big F you!!! Daley Jr. can eat the corn out of my feces.

So, basically, all of Chicago sucks because your boss was an a-hole who underutilized your labor services. I would politely suggest that you may want to consider adjusting your perspective.

We thank God for every day that you're out of here too. Sounds like the current arrangement is mutually beneficial for you and for us. Or at least it will be as soon as you can put it behind you and move forward.

Back to RedBoar for this. I think he'd agree that our municipal administrations would have addressed this by now, if they wished to. Instead we get more lipstick as if to continue building too much on top of not enough. What kind of "world-class" town tolerates a Jackson subway stop with four different karaoke singers "performing" four different songs, each of them with their own amplifiers, not to mention eating on the subway car as if we are simply more "real" than a Toronto or Montreal. And I agree with all that RedBoar conveys. With all the miles he's got on him, I'm surprised he hasn't reminded us that Winston Churchill once described Chicago as a Queen Mary front with a Mary Jane back. We make progress, of course, bit by bit... in half century increments, but fundamentally we are still a town of "doing," not yet a state of "being". Someone (above) just conveyed how difficult difficult it is (can be) to get about enjoying life here (e.g., getting to that North Side for an art film. That moved me. It's our urban dilemma, the manhattanization of Chicago and all that, maybe our human dilemma. But I like that RedBoar still sees the same thing whether he's looking up from the bottom or down from the top. Australia or South Africa would be glorious for him. I'd welcome that, too. He's no conformist. But probably he'd do well enough in Cheyenne or even "Abelene, Abelene... prettiest town I've ever seen. Women there don't treat you mean... in Abelene!" Our middle class no less vulnerable to diminished quality-of-life than other cities. Everything will increasingly become a hassle for those who can't buy their way or pull their way around town. And more lipstick won't fix this. This I know.

Ah, this is why is so MISS chicago (live in seattle now- for almost a year but grew up and lived in chicago for 33 years). Chicago is GREAT, do NOT live in the burbs, they SUCK. There are so many great areas to live in this city, i recommend the following: Andersonville (the most recent hood i lived in), bucktown, wickerpark, ukranian village, lincoln square. there ARE a lot of annoying yuppy-ish people in chicago (lincoln park, downtown areas (botox bimbos), even lakeview is annoying now with stroller running everyone over but it's good that families are choosing the city over burbs again) but also a lot MORE cool, down to earth, open-minded people--especially in the neighborhoods i named. I miss chicago b/c people on the west coast are just not as opinionated, interesting, fun and LIVELY. i miss all this debate and opinions flying around. MOVE there- you will love it. this is as urban a city as you will get outside of NYC without the outrageous prices --high prices but not outrageous.
