There's not ONE neighborhood on the Northside that I fear, not ONE! Edgewater is a SAFE nabe, PLEASE get that thru your head. Homeless people? Why would a homeless person scare me? But who wants to look at them or sit down in a coffee shop next to one? They stink!
"Trouble-free"? My man, are looking for some type of utopia of something? It doesn't exist in 'city life'. Some of you people really crack me up here (especially the men). I guess alot of guys on here can't take care of themselves on the 'streets', and didn't grow up fighting. Probably have white collar jobs and don't like any kind of confortations. I get it, it ain't me, but I get it.

Nothing in this thread has anything to do with what I am looking for in a neighborhood. I'm just pointing out how you're wrong. I agreed that Edgrewater is a nice neighborhood. It's just not the utopia YOU are making it out to be.

Ya know, "nabe" is really annoying. It makes me think of the back of someone's neck. (Yes, I know that's the nape.) Is it that hard to type the word "neighborhood"?

Correction, the "utopia" that YOU want or need to have to put a stamp of approval on it, and deem it "safe". I've stated on an earlier post on this thread, quote " City living, is city living". If someone wants the COMPLETE safety and comforts of a suburb, then they should move to one. But instead, they limit Chicago to 3 or 4 neighborhoods, and are scared to death of the rest.
Are you inside before the 'street lights' come on every night?

Can't be more annoying than someone who's scared of the Kenmore-Winthrop corridor!

A. I wouldn't jog alone at 5 a.m. in any part of this city, any other city and the vast majority of suburbs. Period.
B. Every person looks at a neighborhood with their own reference point. Most of us did not grow up fighting on the street as you so elegantly put it. Most of us are not OK with every neighborhood on the north side. That doesn't make us wrong; that makes us different.
C. Get back on the OPs topic ASAP or I'm closing this thread and handing out infractions.
D. Oh my God "nabe" is annoying.

5 Am is the safest time to be out in ANY city. These are the words of Bill Cosby, when asked why he walks around Philly at that hour. He said ask any cop and they'll tell you the same thing. Plus, when you're running, you're RUNNING! How many creeps are in good enough shape to try and run you down?
I ain't a kid anymore, my days of fighting on street corners are long over. But that don't mean that I've lost my edge or nerve. And nobody's going to bogart me either. A "nabe" like Edgewater, nobody has-to-be 'hard'. If someone is nervous about it, I don't know what to tell but move to a suburb.

No, but he said this only few years ago. What he is, is a famous and wealthy man, who's up in his years. I highly doubt that he could fight off anyone if he needed too. I'd say he'd be more of a target than you, or any other woman would be, because of this fact.
If you live your life in fear, that's your business. But don't expect everyone to do that, just cause you and some others on here obviously do.
It takes a little bit of moxy to live in cities. Some cities, and some "nabes", it takes a little more than others. But to have a 100% completely "safe nabe" ain't going to happen. This is just the fact of 'city living'.

Am I the only one confused as to what pittsteelerfan is so jacked up about? He states that people won't find "complete safety" in the city; no one would disagree with that. Then why is he getting so bent out of shape when people point out that Edgewater has some questionable areas? That's hardly comparable to calling Edgewater a hellhole or a slum.
I also find "nabe" really, really annoying.
