Mansions in the city?!
So I wanted to go to the city to take pictures of the old mansions. Where exactly can I find them other than Astor and that area? Modern mansions would be good too.

I just walked by a place that is being built now and looked like a friggin DC museum today as I was scoping out the potential new hood. You can see it off of Halsted (east side)around the 1800 block, I believe. It was among the most amazing homes I've seen in the city.

Oh yeah, Chicago has mansions in its neighborhoods. Check out yahoo's real estate listings and look in the $1m+ range.

I've done that. The majority are in Astor, E banks. Or they are condos and I don't want to take pictures of condos . So that was why I was asking if the only mansions are in that area?

Um... I found a very high number of pages of mansions not in Astor this way. Nor were they condos.
Just after a second of looking: 1432 N State Pky, Chicago IL 60610 Home for Sale - Yahoo! Real Estate

One place is Ravenswood.
Go in the area bordered by Wilson to Lawrence and Ravenswood to Ashland.
There are old wood mansions there.
================================================== ===================================
Also go to southside near the Lake. Make sure you drive though. That area between Cermak and 40th or so is pretty sketchy ,but it has many old mansions that the movers and shakers lived in before they moved up to Streeterville.
Look (south of Cermak in particular) on Michigan,Prairie,Indiana,Calumet, etc... Stay east of State Street.

Most of new, $5MM++ houses are in LincPk, not GoldCoast
Chk ~1900 Orchard and Burling area....dumpy area nr slums, but many titans have chosen to build their new houses in that area, rather than Astor
Only upside of LP is it's closer to Alinea for daily grub

Okay, so you've got the "New Money Gold Coast" in Lincoln Park covered... Now come to Buena Park and look at Hutchinson Street. Kenwood and Hyde Park have some good ones too. Same with South Shore. There are only a couple left on Prarie Avenue.

That entire area is technically Uptown.
*EDIT* I should say it's all in the Uptown Community Area (which goes west to Ravenswood north of Montrose), but I guess in the Ravenswood Neighborhood. Avengerfire was not wrong.
