Are you kidding? That's like tipping a mobster who charges you for "protection."

I've never tipped them... they're usually union people and make very good money, no?
I always dread when I have to have the cable guy out. Some have been "bull in a china shop" types (banging/scuffing my walls, knocking things down, etc.). I don't appreciate that... makes me very uncomfortable. Always feel I have to watch them like a hawk.

Furthermore, I wouldn't offer them beer, either. I'd guess they shouldn't be drinking while on the job, especially since they'll be driving their van/truck to the next location.
Maybe a glass of icewater if it's a hot summer day. That's about as far as I'd go.

Not to mention AT&T (I used to work for them when they were Ameritech/SBC, so I know).

Yes they are union.
Before they were Ameritech/SBC they were Ameritech. Before that they were AT&T and originally Illinois Bell (a division of the original AT&T-American Telephone & Telegraph Company).
There is long story involved here. Maybe you know it. It would take too long to explain here!

Oh, I know it. I date all the way back to the "Ma Bell" days.
