Nothing? This kind of reaction to an out of control situation certainly doesn't help any of Chicago's crime problems.

"oh...that's been happening for years, it's no big deal, usually only the "bad guys" die or get beaten"

Thank you for validating what I said. What you probably think is 'cool' or 'urban' (gang members running wild in the streets, acting like animals, etc) is what leads to innocent people getting caught in the crossfire when these punks go from throwing punches to shooting guns.

If these guys want to kill eachother, I'm all for it, be my guest. But when it happens a little too close to my neighborhood, then I have a problem with it.

It's also just easier to act cool about these things when you have no skin in the game -- no family to protect, no 400K mortgage. If I were a single guy renting and there were a bunch of marauding animals on the street I'd ignore them. If it got bad I'd move. When you're pushing kids around in strollers and you have a thirty year mortgage with declining equity it's really not that funny anymore.

what is helen supposed to do about gang activity? are you kidding me? she's smart enough to know she can't do a damn thing. the only thing that will drive the have-nots out is gentrification - and 100% completion will take a couple of more decades.

if you're a male, wear flip flops have the latest iphone toy and support the starbucks franchise you're a yuppie. two out of three there would qualify you too.
