Does anyone have any tips or ideas for cheap (or free) parking in Downtown Chicago?

I'm getting a rental car during my trip up there the first week of March 09. I'm staying near the Millennium Knickerbocker.

Any help would be AMAZING... I'm low on funds.

I will not reveal. Everyone else would ruin it for the few that are in the know.

Unless you need to drive all over the burbs when you're out here, the wiser thing to do would be to not rent a car at all.

jdiddy's question is a valid one -- do you really need a car?

If you do need to bring a car with you I would park it on a street just outside of the loop and leave it there. Personally when I would go around the milenium park area I would park my car around the roosevelt and halsted area and then either walk or take the bus down Roosevelt. Im not sure if there is a closer non permit parking street to Millennium park. That area would probaly be a little over a mile away from Milennium park. Otherwise youll be paying 40 bucks per 24 hours of parking.

Cheap? Not really. The minimal amount for any lot is about $20/day. You really have to work to find those lots too.

There is basically NO free parking, as even if you find a space without a meter far west of the Loop there is a good chance that the overnight parking without a City sticker for more than just a night or two will result in a ticket...

If you need a car to drive in from somewhere else OR drive out to the burbs you have to budget that into the costs.

Not sure if the hassle is worth it, but, assuming you are driving in with the rental, you could park the thing out at a blue station for $12/day... Might be fees now: Deprecated Browser Error

yeah, pm me too "pal"

free or cheap parking doesnt exsist........buy a couple rolls of quarters for the meters (some still take quarters) as the City needs your money bad so dont even think about leaving a meter unpaid even for a couple minutes...

I'll rent you my wife's indoor garage space for $20/day... But you'll have to use her I.D. to get in. You don't happen to be a tall blonde Norwegian lady in her mid 30s, do you?

I kid. Forget the car, or park it a few miles from downtown and take the train. Just watch out for zoned parking.
