Logan Square vs Noble Square
Looking for apartments and see many fitting my needs in both Logan Square and the Noble Square area. I live in Logan Square now and feel it has its ups and downs.
Which would you feel safer in? Which is more "up and coming?"
Any comments on their comparison or on Noble Square in general would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

How often do you take the train and how far are you willing to walk? Ukie Village is great, I would say safer than Logan Square, but it is typically farther from the El. If you are close enough to the Division or Chicago stop I'd say it's worth making the move.

Noble Square is right next to Ukrainian Village. The border between the two is Ashland.

Noble Square is kind of an offshoot of Ukie in my humble opinion. And the pitfall of both neighborhoods is a lack of close proximity train transportation. If the OP is a biker, driver or busser then it is a non-issue anyway.

Ummm the Division stop on the Blue Line is right there at Ashland/Milwaukee/Division. You really can't get much closer than that to Noble Square or Ukrainian Village. It is well within walking distance from a decent chunk of both neighborhoods.
In fact, you do not even need to get on a train to get downtown-you can just take the Milwaukee bus. It is less crowded and really does not take that much more time than the train from Division on south.
The Chicago stop on the Blue line is a short bus ride (or even a mid-length walk) down Chicago Avenue at Chicago/Halsted/Milwaukee. Also the Metra Clybourn stop is about a mile north of Ukrainian Village and Noble Square.
Noble Square is not an "offshoot" of Ukrainian Village. It has been a neighborhood just as long if not longer than Ukrainian Village. A good portion of it was lost with the construction of the expressway.

If you commute downtown on the Blue Line Noble Square is closer, but the commute can be a lot worse. It is MUCH easier to get on a train at Western, California, or Logan. When I lived in Ukrainian Village I gave up on trying to squeeze onto trains at Chicago or Division and just walked downtown.
What part of Logan Square are you in? That makes a big difference.

There's some CHA low rises along Milwaukee that would make me a little more cautious than I am where I live on the WP/Bucktown border, but honestly I'm not sure how comparable that is to your part of Logan Square as I've spent very little time there.

Actually technically the "townhouses" as well as the high rise are a Co-Op apartments. But that does not make them anymore comforting really...

I know Noble Square is a bona fide neighborhood in it's own right, but I've always sort of thought of the low-income housing along Milwaukee as "Noble Square". The rest of the neighborhood is pretty small, and I woudln't personally want to live close to those low-income "townhouses". They are holding back Wicker Park improvement, in my opinion.
