Try Google streetview.. That way you don't waste a trip ( and incur less risk ..) ...

Our Lady of Angels is over that way, just a couple of blocks away. Does your mother remember the fire?
Very well.

I was just about to post the same thing! I understand the whole "walking down memory lane" thing, but it's not particularly safe there (I used to live in 60651 too) and you'd have to be cautious about the type of people currently living at the old place now (maybe the type of people that don't want random people checking out their home and may react harshly, for example)

Our Lady of the Angels has been closed since 1990. They were merged with St. Francis of Assisi on Kostner and Augusta, and they use that church.

As others have said that area is pretty bad.

I was a small girl when that happened. What a horrible tragedy. 92 children and 3 nuns dead. I understand that the neighborhood never recovered and it began to decline within a few years after the fire.

The fire had little to nothing to do with the decline of the neighborhood.

IrishTom can explain better than I can.

You guys are ALL WAAAAAAY too paranoid! My God, you act like she'd need a tank and small infrantry unit to visit her old address! Scared to make 'complete' stops at the stop signs, etc lol lol lol. How do you guys live with that much fear on a daily basis in Chicago? I guess I've ALWAYS been too stupid or crazy to EVER have that type of fear. I'm sure you guys will ALL reply that I'm just too "stupid"! lol lol lol I'll take being "stupid" over fearful to a point of being silly, anyday!
