Logan blvd and California area? How is it?
It's very close to Palmer Square, a few blocks walk to the California Blue Line stop, and it looks like an OK area.
Specifically, how is the area a few blocks west of here, like between Logan Blvd, the Logan El stop, Fullerton, and California? Is it nice? Safe? Are there gang problems?

Uptowners will tell you it is bad. It is awesome. hatchi's that thai place, rustic, and the best starbuck's patio in chicago in walking distance plus california blue line. Plus LS, and close to Target, Petsmart, Xport fitness and all kinds of stuff..

That area is fine. I would not walk alone late a night if you are a woman as there is an as yet uncaptured rapist in Logan Square, but i would recommend against walking alone late at night in any neighborhood.
I would also try to avoid the Spaulding side of the Logan El if you need that station as it is prone to robberies. Logan Square as a whole is gentrifying and you can still get a lot for the money in that area.

That is a decent area
Anytime there is a Starbucks on the corner it is a good sign.
I have looked at numerous places around there and would have bought already if I did not believe prices had further to fall.
XPort and the Target are close, but east of Western, more than half mile away. You would not walk there unless it was really nice outside. Plus, Diversey Bowl is over there too.

Improving rapidly. The area is quite safe during the day, and incraesingly safe at night. There are gangs, but they're fading fast.

There is a Starbucks across the street from Truman College, but yet it does not make me feel any safer in that part of Uptown.

Apparantly there are gangs everywhere!
Where arent there gangs?
I watched a program on gangs last night-gangs killing innocent children- gangs in the military.
I am now considering joining a gang

I use to live near Kedzie between Fullerton and Logan Blvd.
I lived there from 2001 and 2004, and my roommate (girl) and I use to go walk around there all the time. We'd walk all over that area by California and totally loved it. We never had a single problem, and the people around there seemed very nice, it was awesome.
I would maybe steer a little clear of the areas west of Kedie over to near Kimball and west. That was 5 years ago though, and I know the whole area is on the uptick - especially east of Kedzie.

I zoomed in on the area in Google Maps and searched for Starbucks to see where that one is. But now Google Maps puts a dot on the location of every Starbucks everywhere instead of just the top 10 closest. The correlation in the city between Starbucks, and density of upper middle class jobs and residences is phenomenal!
