Seattle has a two free papers that tell you about night life quarky stories and has classifieds for roommates and jobs and whatever. One is called the stranger and then the other is Seattle Weekly. Does Chicago have any kind of papers that tell you about night life and just fun stuff outside of the chicago times murder and rape stories?

thanks.

The Reader is the oldest and most popular, New City is another large one, and Time Out has been in Chicago for a year or two now.

The Reader and Craigslist are the best sources for roommates and apartments.

thank you for the references. I currently live in Seattle and my lease is up on December 1st. I am looking for a fun area in Chicago maybe you have some info? I like a good night life but I don't need to be lost in it everyday or every weekend. I like to chill out and I like casual places to lounge and eat at or play pool or watch a game. I like libraries, education, coffee shops, and shopping stuff. I'd like to be around a young crowd between 23-35. What area would you recommend? What is a friendly area to live in? I would like to go to a community college and complete my AA degree and transfer to a university what is a good community college you would recommend?

The Red Eye is geared towards 20 somethings as well. It's a free morning paper, easy to read on the train, etc.

There are a lot of great neighborhoods to check out. Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville, and parts of Lakeview are stereotyped as being full of frattish 20 somethings who all went to Illinois/Michigan/Indiana and moved en-masse with a bunch of friends after graduating. There's a kernel of truth in the stereotype, but there is a lot more to those neighborhoods and they're worth checking out.

Another area to check out is West Town/Ukrainian Village/Wicker Park/Bucktown (basically the O'Hare branch of the Blue line from Grand to Western). The stereotype is that this is an artsy area, and there is some truth in the stereotype, but once again there is a lot more to the area.

Either are good places to start out in Chicago.

I feel insulted that this "newspaper" is targeted at my demographic. Its free and I still feel like I paid too much.
