Help with City Sticker transfer...
I had to purchase a new vehicle on Sat. 2/28 and I did my best to take off the city sticker so the number could be read. I am confused about the time I have to get a transfer sticker and what I should do about not having my original receipt. I looked everywhere for it!
I transferred my plates to my new vehicle already and concerned that I will get a ticket while I am trying to get my transfer sticker. I can't afford the new sticker/late fee sticker price which I am guessing is what I will have to pay if I go to a Currency Exchange... Any advice? Thank you for your help!

If you can't find your receipt you will have to get a new sticker until the new year roll over in June. I think they are $50 this time of year so I'm sure that is affordable if you just bought a new car.

"New Vehicle Owners:
You have thirty (30) days (from the date of vehicle purchase) to purchase a city sticker without incurring the late fee penalty. This transaction must be made in person."
A replacement sticker costs $30.
"Transfer/Replacement City Stickers:
You're required to surrender your old sticker (regardless of the condition when peeled from the windshield) & original receipt in order to complete the transfer/replacement transaction. When peeling the sticker off of your windshield, please do so in a manner which will allow a city clerk representative to determine the number on the sticker."
If you cannot find the receipt it looks like you have to buy a new one at a prorated fee at one of these locations:

I know this doesn't help much now, but for future reference you need to look for something called Sticker Magic. You put your city sticker on a sheet of Sticker Magic, which in turn has a very light layer of adhesive that makes it easy to pull right off the window and and leaves no residue. There's a local convenience store chain called J.J. Peppers that carries it. I think maybe Murray's Auto Parts stores has it too. Whenever I've changed cars, I've just pulled it out of the old car, put it in the new car, and not bothered with the $30 "transfer fee." Never had a problem doing it that way, though technically they could nail you for a $120 ticket for not having a proper city sticker, so you do assume some risk by doing that. However, I've never encountered a meter maid or patrol cop ambitious enough to make sure the sticker number matches up with the car's make and model.

I know you can also purchase them at most currency exchanges across the city. I know the Depaul location on Fullerton just west of Halsted sells them.
