Lincoln park or loop
I would like to know about both places compared to each other...
I would assume that the loop has a better view of downtown, and there are residential buildings mixed with Office buildings, as opposed to other areas that have just residential buildings.
And is there a place that is safe and close to downtown that isnt just Yuppies. Perhaps a more eclectic group of people?
This is just for curiosity.

The loop is downtown so it actually doesn't have much of any kind of view.

There's a lot of information in the sticky thread at the top of the forum which would probably help you out.
There's a link to the neighborhood map. Take a look at that, then read through the various threads about the neighborhoods closer to the loop. "Close to downtown" is relative. In general, the areas closest to the loop are pricier. The pricier an area, the less eclectic it gets.

If you an afford to live there Streeterville and Near North will give you great views of the city but they are also awash with tourists 10 months out of the year. If you want a more eccentric population and more diverse I would recommend the west loop, UIC area or East Pilsen. With these areas you will have to be careful of the streets you look on because, Pilsen especially, can vary widely from block to block.

These two areas aren't really comparable at all. You're comparing a residential neighborhood to Chicago's Central Business District. It's like going to the New York forum and asking, "How does Greenwich Village compare to Midtown Manhattan?".
