Simply put, in you're personal opinion, what is the best value neighborhood in Chicago. IE. What neighborhood gives the most per dollar you spent to live there?

Lincoln Square
Edison Park
To some extent Ukie Village and Old Irving Park.

Though, I live in LP so that my kid can go to a great public magnet school and so that I can walk to a great deal of restaurants, bars, farmers markets etc so it really depends on what you consider quality of life. Though space for the money and to some extent proximity to public transportation are why I choose those. Jefferson Park will also give you a lot of space for a little dollar but I would never want to live there.

Well I think this is off to a good start. I am doing this for a friend who specifically said not Wicker Park, so I removed that. The Lincoln Square area is generating a great response. Can some people post why they are voting for that?

Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce, Chicago

YouTube - Lincoln Square neighborhood video from Dream Town (even though everyone here hates them)

Lincoln Square, Chicago - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Basically, it is still relatively affordable. Has an eclectic population from early 20s up to retirement age. It is not fratty or big 10 like LP and Lake View. The neighborhood is very walkable and offers nice amenities like restaurants, bars and shopping but it is not so crowded or touristy like E. LP and Near North that is becomes unbearable.

interesting. I'll have my friend check it out 100%. I have only been out there three or four times, usually on the inside of bars. Need to do more research. Thanks!

My issue as to why I would not live there, at least at my age, is that it is too far from downtown and too far from the lake. I may skimp on one but not both. It's pretty family oriented too so if your friend is a baby hater he/she may consider uptown or west lake view over LS.

If you look at the heart of LS it's not really cheaper than Lakeview/LP. Fortunately it gets much better when you look a bit around, like around Foster, the Eastern part of Albany Park etc. which are much cheaper while being mostly very decent quiet areas only a stones throw away from all the action.
