Default Overall 3 best neighborhoods to buy in Chicago IYO

Please select 3 best neighborhoods to invest in Chicago.

This time I am doing a more comprehensive list as I am interested to see what happens. last time it was Lincoln Square, Logan Square, Uptown, but Edgewater was not in there, and neither was Hyde Park, or Andersonville, or North Center.

I actually think that all of those still aren't the best areas to invest in because they have really gone up in price already. Now, they may be good places to buy in/good places to live and most places are a good investment in general, but you're not going to get extreme increases.

My neighborhood isn't even on there....

The best neighborhood to buy in is the one you want to stay in for several years. Even in this economic and housing downturn, Lincoln Park and Lakeview have been holding their value better than most of the city. Why? Because they will always be desirable places to live and don't require market forces to "transform" the neighborhood in the future.

Right now a place "holding its value" is better than a place with potential. That's my two cents. I'd rather be near the Lincoln Park lakefront right now instead of Uptown as a homeowner, that's for sure.

From a buyer's perspective, you have to also consider what people want.

The consumers haves desires. The typical Chicago consumer wants:

-Convenience of location
-Plenty of living space and OPTIMALLY growth space even in their first Condo
-Significant and local entertainment options
-A neighborhood community
- A price that won't put them into foreclosure if they lose a job or become underemployed for a time.

So I think the neighborhood that wins will have a high utility weighted between these items...

Why are we PM-ing? I'm confused.....

Mine is East Rogers Park. I chose it because I was able to get a lot of bang for my buck, can walk to work, got garage parking included (single car garage), have a shared yard, and I still have a lot of family owned stores in the area which are nice. I can also walk to work (well, 3 days of the week).

We also chose it because we plan on staying for at least 3-5 years. If we had a lot more to spend, we may have chose a different neighborhood, but I'm glad that we chose ours.
