is kenwood really 75% black and 15% white i though that area was mostly white
i looked at hyde park and they are saying its 43% white and 37% black, i thought those areas were overwelmingly white
and Mckinley park is a hispanic neighborhood right? how is it is it pretty safe because it is surrounded by some rough areas

Well, new census numbers will be released next year but I would suspect that Hyde Park has basically maintained those 2000 numbers, save for an increase in hispanic residents.

Why would you think the area is mostly white?
There are lots of white people, lots of black people, the population is pretty stable from year to year (no white flight), and real estate is expensive. That's all you really need to know. You will blend in no matter what your race is.

McKinley Park is somewhat shielded from rough areas around it by physical barriers such as a raised railroad line between it and Brighton Park, and a full railroad yard between it and Back of the Yards. The area to the north of it is separated by the Stevenson Expressway, though the area immediately to the north (Heart of Chicago isn't particularly awful. To the east is Bridgeport which is also not a bad area. McKinley Park itself is white-knuckling it. There's gang activity there already, but so far not enough to turn the entire neighborhood south. There's a very good possibility that it will succumb, and there's also a very good possibility that it will remain stable. Hard to tell which way it will go.

Chimack- I assumed those were the numbers the OP pulled for this post. They will be updated with a new census next year.

There has also been some gentrification in McKinley Park. That could keep it from going south.

There has been very limited gentrification in McKinley Park, mostly near the L stations. There hasn't been enough to notably change the character of the neighborhood though. There's condo building going on even in Garfield Park and Englewood. That has more to do with developers betting on future improvements of the neighborhood than any actual gentrification momentum. So it is with McKinley Park -- a better bet IMO than the other two neighborhoods.

In terms of Kenwood, your figures might include North Kenwood, between 43d and 47th street, which has a completely different demographic than Kenwood proper, between 47th and 51st.
Kenwood is racially mixed, but is also quite well-to-do.
