Anyone who lives south of Green Bay or north of Waukegan can drive to Milwaukee and hop the ferry. For everyone else, it's just as easy to drive around the lake.

Yes I realize this but many places have ferrys regardless if there are others means. Some people want to relax and enjoy the ride itself. Anyways thank you for your response at least you had something worth saying.

Generally a ferry that's just for relaxation and not transportation isn't really a ferry... it's just a boat.
A ferry is meant to carry people and/or cars from one place to another with purpose... and there's just not much of a reason for one here.

Someone who wants a ride to relax can hop on a local cruise boat, of which Chicago has plenty. Someone who specifically wants a ferry can drive up to Milwaukee and hop on one up there. There's only so much room in the marketplace for a niche operation like a ferry. The Milwaukee/Muskegon ferry has the regional market covered.

Which places are you thinking of? The few ferries I can think of from the top of my head are all routes that can compete in travel time and/or price with existing alternatives.

Why are people freaking out so much about this question? It's just a question from someone who's never lived here and doesn't know much about it.....
No, there aren't ferrys because you can more easily just drive around the bend of the lake to Michigan.
From Milwaukee there are ferrys because it would take many more hours to drive all the way around the lake to other areas in Michigan.
It's all about economics.....would enough people choose to take a ferry across from Chicago to support the cost of running the service? No.

Thanks yall for the good answers.
Ok so the conclusion is ferries no, cruise ships yes.
The cruise boat sounds fun!
Honestly lake Michigan kinda creeps me out. Just because it is a lake and so large.

Totally! Large lakes are like, 'OMG, what are you - an ocean?!" Ugh. So creepy. And random.
