southern suburbs are the closest to Hyde Park and offer the best commuting to the area via the metra electic line.

Definately want to tour the area as the areas range from grimy to gorgeous.
The best imo are
1 flossmore (super expensive estate living)
2 homewood (family suburb)
3 olympia fields (estate living on a budget)
4 Blue Island (main st usa urban environment renewal in progress)
5 matteson (integrated suburb)
6 pullman, chicago (most affordable artist friendly neighborhood in the city)
7 steger (country living)
8 park forest (mid century masterpiece suburb)
8 richton park (close to park forest)
10 chicago heights (affordable bungalows)
