Im a 'food' lover as well. It is my opinion that everybody on this board is a 'food' lover.
Why ' ' food?

Not everyone is a 'food' lover. Some people eat to live, other people live to eat. There's a difference. Some people, like Jay Leno, who really enjoy comfort foods, others don't. There's a lot of people who run around and only eat fruits and salads. I'm sure they could care less what Chicago or any other city has to offer in dining options.

I'm definitely not a food person. I'm a cocktail person. I eat only as much as it takes to soak up the vodka in my liver.

Being from So Cal...this city has that place beat by miles!!!! Not only can I eat at about a zillion places up and down Harlem.....I can pull into anyplace on my way to/from work and get something yummy! Italian Beefs make my toes curl! The exception is good Mexican food...I haven't found it yet. So I am forced to cook it myself

Try Cemitas Puebla on North Ave west of Humboldt Park (the park not the neighborhood) for Pueblan sandwiches. SOOOO GOOD. Also try Nuevo Leon on 18th in Pilsen. Their food is amazing. There is a great Mexican seafood place too right across the street from there but the name escapes me.

Nuevo Leon is a grease pit. Almost literally. You slide on the floors trying to walk, that's how greasy it is. I'm not making that up. I cannot for the life of me understand why so many people sing the praises of that lard-laden, disgusting place.
That said, my choice for non-Gringified Mexican (other than Cemitas Puebla, of course) is La Oaxaqueña on the 3300 block of Milwaukee Avenue.
BTW, the place across the street from Nuevo Leon is called Ostioneria Playa Azul.
ETA: In trying to find some info on Playa Azul, the most pertinent bit of info I found is that it's now closed. Same goes for its Uptown location.
