It's moderately artsy, but mostly a mix of gays, yuppies, poor blacks, and poor immigrants. Very eclectic.

I think it depends on if they really want practicing artists, or are just looking for a scene. I'd still say the Ukranian Village and Logan Square are more artsy hipster oriented neighborhoods, with the monied hipsters still living in Wicker Park and Bucktown with the well-to-do. Pilsen is still a Mexican neighborhood with a few practicing artists and a burgeoning hipster scene. Real practicing artists are now scattered throughout the city.

A "person like me"? I am from inner city Miami and went to college in Yonkers, which is the Bronx in case you lost your map. I had a great number of acquaintances at Fordham and regularly rode the metro and subway to and from the city. I have spent time in the South Bronx and much like BedStuy, BK or Englewood here in Chicago, I do not think anyone that had the sense or funds to avoid it would choose to live in those areas.

There are parts of Roger's Park, around the Heartland Cafe, that might be a little less nutty.

The guy is a musician looking for starving artists and you are going to send him to Logan Square?
I concur - IF he's looking to join a salsa band.
As a matter of fact, the neighborhood is SO brimming with local musical talent, they once started a band called the "Orquesta Albany":
Insane Orchestra Albany Nation History - Insane Orchestra Albany Nation Book Of Knowledge
And if the "Albany Orchestra" isn't the most idiotic name for a gang you've ever heard, try the "Stylers", another local neighborhood block club that was kind enough to help me maintain my garage door by repeatedly placing profoundly original philosophical statements like "Lil' Elvis rulezzzz" and "Ain't No Pity in Styler City" on it, motivating me to apply repeated coats of protective coating.
Thanks to Elvis and the boys, I had the best-painted, best-protected garage door in the entire city!

i think you lost your map...Yonkers ISN'T in the Bronx and it is not the bronx, it is its own city in westchester county north of the bronx

Logan Square has ten times the artists and hipsters that Pilsen has.
