Chicago Public Radio Blog » Chi 2016: I spy…no celebrities | News and Notes from WBEZ

Apparently a map of the "city" was given to IOC visitors this week that went from the Near West Side to the Lake and from North Ave to Cermak.

It's pretty convenient that Chicago officials managed to skirt over any areas that they have deemed undesirable.

And still no closer to International Olympic Committee members. I did spot this celeb at the media party Friday night.
As I continue rummaging through the media bag, I discovered a map of Chicago courtesy of 2016. Apparently the city’s boundaries are Old Town to Chinatown. That’s all folks, nothing else to see here. The back of the map highlights these neighborhoods: Andersonville/Uptown, Bronzeville/Hyde Park, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Pilsen and Wicker Park/Bucktown.
What? No Englewood?"

Well, being that most of the olympics would be happening south of 30th perhaps something including some part of the south side aside from a UofC snippet.

Pretty sure Rio won't be giving any guides of Cidade do Deus either.

Must be. And you can't blame them, can you? You wouldn't want to see our visitors who will determine if Chicago gets the Olympics mugged or murdered by the impoverished and crazed in Sauganash, Edgebrook, Forest Glen, and Edison Park, would you?

Even Ipanema is shady these days.

Even so, there are many areas I can't imagine them walking around, even nice ones. What are they going to say? "Yes, this is Hyde Park. We have here some students, some genuine black people-- look over there!-- and oh my, what's this? A laundromat! All this hustle and bustle of people going about their day on this fabulous Tuesday afternoon. When does the excitement end? Certainly not here, folks, this crazy train's just getting started! Hoot Hoot! Hahahaha, and to your left is a halfway home."

I suppose I just don't understand tours of the city for this particular situation. I'd care a lot more about logistics.

I dunno, that map could have been for the IOC members to use when they were on their own. They must have been taken on a guided tour of the proposed Olympic areas.

Hmmm....North to Cermak, the lake to Racine.

Those are pretty much the boundaries of the city I live in, so it sounds right to me.

The biggest redefinition I see on that map is the "Near West Side", which apparently no longer includes GreekTown, and has moved south of the Ike and now encompasses much of what used to be called the Lower West Side.

And according to the blowup on the back, I now live in Pilsen, which means that I am not only cutting edge, but artsy, hip and cool, to boot.

You should be so lucky!

Gross. This reminds me of that "Real America" garbage from the Presidential election. It's all Chicago.
