You seem to miss the point the BinaryBelle made perfectly clear. Which she did a again just a great job of! The flu will take those 20,000 people this year as well. But again its the ELDERLY & INFANTS that will pass away due to Influenza. SWINE FLU IS KILLING HEALTHY PEOPLE. And these viruses can mutate after being treated. So essentially you can have a Swine Flu that becomes immune to Tamiflu (which is how they treat it currently). Not to mention that Swine flu has similar symptoms as Influenza. Which means people wont believe they have Swine flu and will continue to infect others and spread the virus. I would not be surprised if American citizens had masks on within 2 weeks. Not kidding

There is a good site to view from the CDC about how to prepare for an pandemic. Here is the link
PandemicFlu.gov
From what I can tell is that beyond the illness there may be interruption to other services and business operations due to high worker absentism. If schools close down in large numbers, healthy parents may need to stay home to care for healthy kids. The situation is not dire but requires everyone to expect things to be fluid for the next several weeks.

If the stock market crashes because of a flu epidemic that so far has not been shown to be more dangerous than the ordinary seasonal flu, the only thing it will prove is that the stock market doesn't know what it's doing.
And no, we don't know that this flu regularly kills the young and healthy because clearly Mexico has no idea how many cases they have. So far in the USA it looks like a dud.
Anyway, most of us here don't CARE what the stock market does in the next several months. So long as this doesn't affect GDP, i.e. the REAL economy, I'm good. If you are heavily exposed in the stock market with money you need in the next several months, you are an idiot regardless of current events.

Sir are you serious? Did you read what you wrote before you posted? The stock market is affected by EVERYTHING. Weather, Pandemics, Elections,What day of the week it is, Holidays, everything effects the stock market. Secondly the stock market is run by people who are quite literally geniuses, it doesnt run itself. Lastly if you dont care what the stock market does, I would like to ask what your profession is? Currently we are experiencing the highest unemployment in a long long time...No job is safe, unless you live in your parents basement. One other thing if you dont think the STOCK MARKET will change the REAL GDP. Well then quite frankly you have no idea what you are talking about and id move on to another topic, like the weather in chicago.

"In the suburbs, the cases were: a 27-year-old man in Elmhurst; an 18-year-old man in Geneva, in Kane County; a 12-year-old girl in Kane County; and a 6-year-old girl in Lake County."
"The 12-year-old at Kilmer lives in Rogers Park, city officials said. The other probable city cases are: a 20-year-old man, also from Rogers Park; a 25-year-old man from Lake View; a 36-year-old woman from Woodlawn; a 35-year-old woman from Hegewisch."
"Two of the other cases are in Kane County, where two schools are closing until Monday."

My one-year old daughter came down with some resperatory symptoms two days ago (runny nose, coughing, sneezing, sore throat), but never had a fever. She's now recovered. So apparently there is also a mild Spring cold going around. I'm sure that will throw a few people into a panic.

Of course, it's hard not to panic. My dad is really involved with public health for his job and kind of clued me in last night. He said that the danger is that this strain could mutate in which case it could become a lot more serious. It will probably go away for a while, and people might even forget about it, but it could spike back up in the fall once flu season starts. It's kind of just a waiting game now. He said to not panic, wash your hands a lot, don't touch your face, etc. Even if you get this strain of the swine flu, you will recover in all likelihood.

We need a vaccine. I'm expecting another child in the Fall, and I'm very nervous for my little ones with undeveloped immune systems. It scares the absolute **** out of me.

Congratulations!
It's a little scary, but it will most likely be ok.
