It's a great area - You're close to both public transportation and the expressway, and there is plenty to do in the area. I lived just west of there for 10 years and never had any problems with crime. There are a lot of great places opening up on Chicago ave. and you'll be within easy walking distance to a lot of great restaurants on Division. Eckhart Park is the closest green space (it's probably the one you're talking about). There are also plans to put a small park in at the SE corner of Milwaukee and Paulina for farmer's markets and stuff.

La Pasadita is weird... why do they have, like, 17 restaurants on the same flippin' corner? I guess they just want to make sure they have the market cornered in that neighborhood...

I have no clue. I've eaten at two of them and liked them both, but I really don't understand why they need to have so many. A steak taco is a steak taco, and a really good one, from any one of the places (who knows, perhaps the other two have different steak tacos, but I doubt it)

My boyfriend and I are looking at a place in noble square near eckhart park. Today we walked around the area and got a sketchy feeling from the area. Is this an accurate feeling? I loved the place we were looking at, but I am a 25 year old female... who does not want to have to worry about safety when running or walking around alone.

Cool thread. I went to Whitney Young, and we would always escape for lunch... basically as far as we could go in 40 minutes. The closest McDonald's was Chicago & Ashland. It was never exactly a peaceful commute, because of all the lights on Ashland... I always liked it better when we ate on Taylor Street.

Anyways, that neighborhood was cool, if a little undefined, back when I remember it in the '90's. That's why its interesting to me that its sort of up for grabs as to what neighborhood its actually in. I never knew either. I just knew there seemed to be nothing of interest, just a lot of brick garages, between there and WY and that was so weird.

I'm curious, what are prices like in that area for apartments? For homes?

How is West Town near Huron & Oakley or leMoyne & Bosworth? Would you live there?

IMO Le Moyne and Bosworth is the better location, but you're probably going to hear a significant amount of traffic from the highway.

Huron and Oakley - it's probably listed as Ukrainian Village, but it's not, as you'll be south of the UV border, Chicago. But, you'll be close to a lot of restaurants on Chicago which is a booming area. And you're close to the new Dominick's grocery store at Damen and Chicago.

You'll also be significantly farther from the el however. You'll have to depend on the bus more than at the first location.

You can start to hear the highway traffic near Le Moyne & Cleaver. Greenview and Bosworth are quiet, FWIW.

"West Town near Huron & Oakley"

Scale of 1-10?

About a 4-5.

Why do you ask?

its everything you would want from a neighborhood with the restaurants, stores and easy access to all forms of transportation
but i have one question

does anybody know what that high rise on the corner of Chestnut & Noble across from eckhart park is?
i hope it isn't what i think it is
