in order to tell us the crime is down or categorizes crimes differently? i read the the cop blog and this statement made me think

"The "traffic accident" at Kedzie/Augusta was no Traffic Crash. Domestic double homicide. This is how they keep the numbers down in Daleyland"

i know some might say its the internet and dont believe what you read there...but it makes me wonder

They did a special on some kid who had his death labeled suicide, but everyone around him pretty much knows it was a homocide.
Family suspects they did that to keep homocide rates down.

The usual method, employed to great effect by Atlanta, is to preliminarily report it as some lesser crime, and have the real crime listed in their own books. For example, if someone is shot they would report it as aggravated assault, and when the person dies in the hospital, fail to change the arrest report to reflect the homicide. For many years, Atlanta was the murder capital of the US, but hid the fact using such tricks. It is easy to imagine that Chicago is doing the same thing.
