When it comes to getting your car towed, possession is 95% of the law. I don't know a single person who has ever argued with or fought a tow company and won. Once they get the grips on your car, your screwed.
Anyone know how tow companies are set up financially? Do the private ones get a contract from the city? Do they get a per-car fee?
Do the city tow trucks get a bonus for towing a certain number of cars?
I learned long ago not to challenge the towing gods. You'll lose every time. If it's a 'tow zone' but you're just running in to get a coffee, gone 2 minutes with your hazards on, too bad, they'll nail you.

No Nafster, behavior that is normal on Chicago roads would result in citation by NYPD in New York. New Yorkers are much better organized drivers because they do not have a choice. Just the use of blinkers is very common as opposed to New Jersey or Chicago. Driving in a big city forces drivers to act certain way or face total griddlock (elimination). The rules I posted are not meant to constrict traffic flow but to allow it, organize it. It's all about the flow, isn't it?
I could never understand why Chicago traffic is so bad, why I90 in the morning looks the way it looks, especially given the lack of natural barriers like in New York until I discovered that a normal way of driving in Chicago includes total disregard for other drivers and traffic laws. It's wild west here.
Chicago has been a big city for the last 200 years yet Chicgo drivers still act like they are riding buggies on country roads.

Even 160-170 years ago Chicago had a population under 10,000.
Chicago's population was around 350 when it was founded as a town in 1833.
It was about 4,000 in 1840. (Chicago became a city in 1837.)
In 1850 the population was about 30,000.
Then the city started to really explode.
In 1860 the population was about 100,000.
1870: 300,000
1880: 500,000
1890: 1,000,000
1900: 1,700,000
1910: 2,100,000
1920: 2,700,000
1930: 3,370,000
1040: 3,400,000
1950: 3,600,000 (peak was in the 50's)

Don't know about the towing but I do know any moving violations are dismissed if you take the time to go to court. The judge calls everyone up together and dismisses everyone. lol
Hard to believe.

You are wrong. I was in the area today. I looked all down La Salle at every sign on the east side of the street between Division and North. All the no parking rush hour signs were 4:00-6:30. They were not new signs either. They all were well worn.
I even took pics which I will post tomorrow.
I am not sure I believe your story now.

It's almost impossible to fathom what it was like with that many people. A whole 3.6 million.
