I don't know about Tru. The food is excellent, but I'm unable to keep a straight face when all those itty bitty courses (a large spoonful of soup is a course?) are delivered by a squad of waiters. The presentation is just too much for me.
Went to North Pond
The waiters their are legend in their snobbery.
We ordered a bottle of white and the waiter says; "you might want to let this sit for 10 minutes, it's a couple of degrees to cold"
I wanted to take a sip, spit it out and yell; "this wine is 55 degrees not 57. Send this swill back!"

Yeah, I agree. It really does make a difference. If you do a blind tasting of the same wine at different temperatures and ask people which one they like best, they will usually go into the ins-and-outs about why wine A is better than wine C. Just a few degrees brings out different notes to the wine, for better or worse.
My parents are coming up for a visit and they are real foodies! They live and breath the food network and are wanting to try some of Chicago's finest! I would like to impress them with my knowledge by finding some great restaurants with renowned chef's in Chi. Any recommendations? Money is not a factor, but I would also prefer someplace that is not stuffy.
I took a look at that thread, but there sure was a lot of nastiness on there. Although there were some suggestions, it looks like Myssa hijacked that one.
Any thoughts on Table fifty-two and Graham Elliots? My dad wants to eat at the Prime Rib, but it looks super stuffy to me. Topolo is fully booked and I am bummed about that.

Try Moto; the executive chef was on Iron Chef America. It is pricy...Grand Tasting Menu was 300 a person (I think....) and the wine paring was about 175 (once again, I think..). The grand tasting is 20 courses, with a paired wine (one was a beer), and each is done with gastronomy in mind.
Table 52 is good, but for something different and cool, try Moto.
Grant Achatz's Alinea has been rated the best restaurant in the country, so if you're looking to pull out all the stops and do a "once in a lifetime" type thing, you cant really go wrong there. Dinners usually last several hours, and you can choose from either a 12 or 24-course option.
