No, Asians are not particularly bullied or otherwise discriminated against in Chicago. Let me give you an example; during the Los Angeles riots of 1992 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia African-American and Hispanics attacked Korean owned stores all over Los Angeles, and similar but smaller riots happened in New York City, Detroit, Atlanta and a number of other cities. In Chicago, absolutely nothing happened.

I don't know so far every time Ive told someone we are moving to Chicago someome has replied by telling me that in Chicago they kill women to steal babies from thier wombs, crackheads poke you with needles, everyone has aids, morally bankrupt city, no one cares about anyone, I could go on. Its really annoying listening to people tell me this crap. I The last person to make a comment was my husbands step father but he is total weirdo and they are from a very small town. He based all this on his one visit to Chicago. I think more people ignore Asians than bully them.

I am confused. Is the OP a high school student? Will their family be moving into the attendance area of Lincoln Park High School?

If so they should be aware this is one the most unusual public high schools in the Chicago system. They have a very small, highly talented group of students that participate in an self-contained International Baccalaureate Program. Students that achieve success in this program are well prepared to compete for spots in the top Universities of the world. This is a very different experience than the students at LPHS that are going their simply because it is their assigned 'local attendance area" high school. Despite the high income of Lincoln Park, the students have a much different profile, as there are a wide variety of private schools that serve Lincoln Park. Students from lower incomes often are under prepared academically, and have social issues as well. There are racial and economic tensions at LPHS, and I would be surprised if Asian students are immune from such tension.

Yeah, I think a lot of suburban and rural Americans have a tendency to feel this way about cities in general. Growing up in the suburbs myself, I've heard my fair share of the "dangers" of the city and how you should never go there unless you have to. I think, in the past, it had a lot more to do with racism. Nowadays I think it is just mostly due to ignorance and sensationalized local news.
