Hi All,
I am currently a Special Education teacher at a Therapeutic Day School in Boston. I am moving to Chicago this summer, and will also be completing a BCBA prep program and sitting for the exam this fall to become board certified in Applied Behavior Analysis. While I have had very little difficulty finding job openings at schools that utilize these behavioral theories, I am having a LOT of difficulty finding possible job opportunities in the Chicago area. Can anyone help??? I have been teaching for 8 years, have a Masters Degree in Special Education and a MA teaching license, which is reciprocal with Illinois.
Any advice or suggestions would be awesome!
-julie

My mom was a great teacher in the Phillippines but she kept being turned away when applying at the Chicago Board of Education for a Teacher job, and she shouldn't of course stay as a Woolworth's cashier! She got in by applying as a teacher aide at Chopin School directly to the Principal. And when she was given the worst unruly class to handle, - that no other teacher could manage, ... and she handled, disciplined, and taught them well, - the Principal recommended and made her a teacher to the Board! Then destiny with a FAT pension followed, and we're living cushy with her awesome pension and health insurance!

Can't get in through the Board - apply at a school! Now gimme some rep!

No, do not give Jesse Rep.

Just about every school district in the area is short on special ed teachers.

You shouldnt have many problems getting hired.
