Now for the move (ugh!). We've always done the UHaul + moving helpers thing, but this time (since it looks like we'll have some flexibility moving in), I'm thinking we should just do multiple trips over 2 weeks with a friend's van. I have had the worst experiences with UHaul, and it stresses me out to use them again. We've had decent experiences with hiring moving helpers off of the UHaul site, but I just don't want to spend the money for 3 hours/2 men when we'll probably only need 1 hour/1 man for the very heaviest stuff. Any recommendations for reputable, inexpensive manpower for only an hour's work?

Try craigslist for manpower. If you don't feel comfortable without recommendations try yelp and see the cheapest ones that come highly recommended.
