Well this went quite off track.
Well about my car. I have a 2006 Focus ZX3. I have never driven in snow and am terrible at parallel parking because I can't judge my hood or rear bumper...so I prolly won't bring it anyways. If I decide to since it's paid off, will it just be a burden? What about snow tires? And FWD is better than RWD? How so...I have no clue about winter driving. I do love driving in warm weather with the windows down and pumping music with my subwoofer.
And about surviving winter. I guess I'll just have to buy A LOT of the right clothing and I'll do fine.

And what about Elmhurst? Elmhurst College seems pretty nice. Is it really far from Chicago though? Is winter better or worse?

Though I don't know the logistics of it; when I moved here I brought my 1990 Volvo, rear wheel drive. On snowy, icy or wet roads I had a lot of issues with sharp turns and parallel parking because my back wheels would spin out. I also didn't have ABS which only contributed to worse issues when the wheels crapped out. A couple of months back I bought a newer model (well to me- 2001) Subie and only used it through the last mild snow we had of the winter but most folks I know that have AWD vehicles are thankful for them when winter rolls around, though the end of the summer is the last thing on my mind right now!

Look at a map. Is winter better or worse in Elmhurst than Chicago? Well, you're not as likely to need to parallel park in tight spots in Elmhurst. But it's only a few miles west of Chicago, and it's Chicago, not Denver. Elmhurst is the same elevation, the same latitude, the same weather. Winter doesn't dramatically change when you leave the city limits.

Seriously. Let's ditch this winter talk. It's May and it's going to be 85 degrees tomorrow.

Did anyone see the temps across the Midwest today? Holy crap, it almost hit 100 in the Twin Cities.

Well everyone was talking about micro climates so I was wondering if Elmhurst was different.
And I did look on a map. It doesn't seem that far, but that's by LA standards. Is it all complete suburbia between Elmhurst and downtown Chicago and in Elmhurst?

It's complete suburbia between Elmhurst and the Chicago border anyway, and even a lot of outer Chicago looks like inner suburbia -- probably no different from L.A. in that regard. Much of L.A. proper looks "suburban" compared to much of Chicago. But the further toward downtown you go, the more "city"-like it becomes until eventually you're in a sea of skyscrapers.

Hmm...I'll just have to visit. And I'm guessing the climate is the same, not part of some micro climate like that of Orland Park that you guys talked about?
