The only part of town that consistently has a "micro-climate" is within a mile or two of the lakefront. Sometimes weather can vary from one side of the Chicago area to the other because it is some 7,000 square miles after all. But usually there's no more than a few degrees difference across the entire Chicago area.

Just so you know, Northwestern's main campus (both campuses actually) is literally right on the lakefront. That means it will be slightly cooler in the summer and slightly warmer in the winter versus the rest of the area. But it will still be plenty cold enough in the winter to get your attention.

I know. That's one more thing I like about it. I live 5 mins walk from the beach in LA and it's cool that NU is right on the lake. According to maps there are beaches but do students actually go in?
Although the actual temps near the lake in much of the winter are higher than most of the city in terms of wind chill temp living near the lake is generally much colder especially between late January and late March.
One must factor in the higher level of wind chill one gets off of the lake in winter that is not present in the rest of the city.
However, once one gets far enough away from the city (like 20-25 miles) the wind chills are pretty bad and many times equal the wind chills that one gets within 1-2 miles of the lakefront.
May want to also mention that 30 degrees with 20 mph easterly winds blowing in damp cool air with tons of clouds feels a hell of a lot worse than 20 degree 10 mph dry air under partly cloudy skies which is what usually central IL is subject to. Don't believe me? Go to Colorado in January or Feb for some skiing. It will be 5 degrees outside and you will see people walking around outside the lodge in sweaters and no coats because there is no humidity in the air or wind so if it's sunny out, it actually feels not all that bad.
RX.... youre missing 3 numbers after that. 300? 330? Not that it matters, its a luxury 4Runner for people with big egos and small peni...er, driving skills.
And I would fully expect you to be ticket free driving something like an RX300. Drivers of those types of vehicles are too busy listening to Yanni while sippin a frappucino. Not exactly a ticket-generatin' machine nor crowd.
You dont need an SUV or truck to make it through a Chicago winter. The vast majority of Chicagoans own cars and we do juuuuust fine.
LMFAO! I actually FINALLY got a laugh out of something you wrote I can't believe it. Yes, I listen to Yanni you got me there. Thats probably why on my way in and out of work yesterday I was jammin to the "Freakin Puerto Rican and Trey the Chocolate Jock yaaaaaa" For those who appreciate the art of rap and hip hop, I'm sure you know what station I was jammin to . And it wasn't a frappucino it was a Latte get it straight DOPE! lol. And those SUV's or any Toyota product with the V6's for that matter have balls whether you want to admit it or not. Suped up with some mods in the programming they can put out 250 - 275 horse with a small 6. Not bad and besides the speed limit in this berg everywhere you go is no more than 55 so I wouldn't want to be breaking the law now would I? So what would I want with a fast car. lol pffft. (I'm being faucetious)
