It's the "stuff to do" part that might be a bit of a drag. Though east Pilsen is getting pretty destination-y in its own right. Then again, East Pilsen is also starting to become Lincoln Park II, and we know how well she likes Lincoln Park.

No excuses, just facts.
Here's my transportation reason: From my apartment, I can catch the Red, Brown and Purple Express Trains and the #22, #36, and numerous other buses that run along inner drive from Diversey if I choose to walk that far, plus the #8 to get into the West Loop to go work out. Plus, I'm literally a five minute bus ride/20 minute walk from work. Here's another reason, when I go out, I take cabs. I walk out my front door and I can catch a cab on Clark in 30 seconds. Yeah, it's not so easy in Bronzeville or Pilsen.
Here's my things to do reason: I'm steps away from the retail and restaurants on Clark, Halsted, Broadway, Armitage, Diversey and Belmont. The Green City Market is a 10 minute walk away. Wrigley Field is a 20 minute walk away.
So although I have a love/hate relationship with Lincoln Park, I'm not ready to give up that kind of convenience.

like name the streets so I can drive to check these ghettos out.where is hegewich? or canaryville?
I asked this question cause I was surprised to see even Chinatown didn't have asian thugs hanging out in groups like they are in California. I guess the past thread i started about gangs in Chicago, while just speculation at first, my gut feeling about gangs in Chicago was accurate. it's not so bad. The stony island area black ghetto is typical, nothing new. I've seen these in Baltimore and D.C. so I was wondering about the Hispanic, Asian, and White ghettos. Baltimore has a white ghetto (white ghetto to me is when the drug dealers/prostitutes are actually whites). Hispanic ghettos are far worst in California than here in Chicago. There's nothing like walking in front of 30-50 shaved head mexicans, some with baseball bat, after school. So tell me all, where is "gritty" in Chicago?
The flashing blue lights/police surveillance I've seen here is like a dummy camera (fake camera), compared to the ones in baltimore city.

personally, Chicago-style ghetto implies some combination of high rise public housing (Lathrop Homes never really struck me the same way Robert Taylor did), and/or people who don't seem to have any comprehension of a larger society around them. Littering? ghetto. Walking your kid across Western Avenue against the light? ghetto. Buying lottery tickets and complaining that you're broke? ghetto. Eating nothing but McDonald's and then complaining there's no healthy food options where you live? ghetto.
in short, it's a lack of responsibility. in the cases of the high rises, it's hard to pin all the blame on the residents - how on earth was a kid who grew up in Henry Horner in the 70s supposed to know what the heck normal really was, you know? but unfortnuately that doesn't change the reality and perception to outsiders. I can still see this little kid sitting on the Cabrini Green sign in about 1988 or so, banging two pots together and looking bored out of his mind. I felt bad for that kid, what a sad environment to grow up in.
this is pretty comical if nothing else:
Urban Dictionary: ghetto

you don't find gritty - gritty finds you. you want grit, develop a crack or a heroin habit and just see where it leads you...

Chicago had more murders last year than any California city, so Idk what you mean you can't find the gritty. Midwest gangs are different from California and not color orientated. The Mexican/latino gangs here don't shave all their heads and put tattoos on their faces. Some Latino gang members here where shaffs or shave heads with a ponytail. You can spot a gang member simply by looking how the person **** his hat. It's not always accurate, but it's a way to know if someone is a gan member.
Chicago doesn't have an Asian gang problem, most gangs here are black and latino with a few small white gangs still existing.

there are actually a lot of asian gangs in chicago. Theres a filipino set that is part of the latin kings. And also lots of Vietnamese gangs up on the north side. Of course chinatown has some too but compared to the other gangs the asian gangs are small time. Clearing is somewhat of a rough white neighborhood from what i understand and also around pulaski west of marquette park a lot of white trash out there too.

Really? Never knew there are Asian Latin Kings in Chicago. Are the Vietnamese gangs mafias or street gangs?
I heard there is a small Arab gang called the Arabian Posse in Bridgeview so called Arab projects.
