Corkgirl---Indiana Avenue is pretty nice from Roosevelt down to Cermak though it's nicer up by Roosevelt. There are many and diverse taverns and restaurants in the neighborhood (which is generally called the South Loop). It's also very close to the lakefront and it's parks and museums, close to Downtown too.
Mostly respectable people, I live at 14th and Michigan, a block west of Indiana. South of Cermak I wouldn't want to go.
You'll find people of Irish descent but not many Greenhorns.

There is an Indiana Avenue, but no "Indian Avenue" as far as I know...
I concur with IrishTom on this matter, though I don't know what Indiana Avenue does on the FAR South Side.

It is not somewhere you do not want to be anywhere south of Cermak that I can think of.
S. Indiana is a very long street. It runs from Roosevelt to 63rd where it cuts off. It starts again south of the Skyway around 66th. It gets cut off a couple times south of there too, but starts again each time... it finally ends at Sibley Boulevard (Which is also Route 83 and equal to 147th street.)
