Tenant Limits in Lakeview East
I recently moved to an apartment in Lakeview East and found out that there are five people living in the 1 bedroom apartment below me. Is there a law that prohibits this in the city? I don't feel safe in my apartment. I did contact the Management Company but they tell me that it is legal and nothing wrong with it. I also believe one of the tenants work for the management company. Is there anything I can do? Who would I call? Is this okay? I thought Lakeview East wasn't this trashy.

Why would you feel unsafe?
If I've learned anything in my years it's that money class. you are proof of that.

Sanitary conditions. Too many things in the apartment (you can see from the courtyard) the livingroom is a; dining room/bedroom/livingroom/nursery with crib and bikes.

You feel unsafe because their apartment is cluttered? I don't mean to make any assumptions because I don't know you but you sound like you're bothered by this in a different way. If someone tried to get me evicted for having too many people in MY place, I'd be quite upset. I don't think they're doing anything illegal, so I don't think you can do anything about it.

Chicago14- some management companies and landlords do have a max. tenant rule, like no more than 3 people to a 2 bdrm but it is on a building by building basis. According to the OP one of the tenants below her is an employee in the management company so she is royally fudged. Sure does make her sound like a curmudgeonly elitist though. What do you want to bet that her neighbors are, I am afraid to even speak its name... Mexican? Gasp!

As far as I know it is illegal.
It might not be illegal according to city ordinance, but I am pretty sure it is in violation of Illinois law.

It is illegal for more than three unrelated persons to live together in one unit. If they are related to one another, they can pack 'em in. But if not, you can report them to a building inspector if you feel like being that guy.

I'm sorry, but do you want five people living in a one bedroom below you? That's absolutely ridiculous. How dare you call anyone an elitist because they don't like the associated noise and chaos of having five full grown adults live in a one bedroom beneath them. You should be ashamed.
Some of us are not in college anymore. We expect to live like adults. You may not be able to afford better, and that isn't my problem.
That just has to be illegal.
