Chicago tops another list
87% of arrested men on drugs :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Chicago Crime
Nearly 90 percent of the men arrested in the Chicago area last year tested positive for illegal drug use at the time of their arrests, according to a federal report.
The area's 87 percent rate led among 10 metropolitan areas studied in 2008.
Chicago -- at 29 percent -- also had the highest proportion of arrested men testing positive for heroin, according to the report by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.
The Chicago area also led in male arrestees testing positive for cocaine (44 percent) and the presence of more than one illegal drug in their system (40 percent).
Chicago tied New York, Atlanta and Charlotte for the smallest proportion of methamphetamine use -- at less than 1 percent.

So basically, the best way to stay out of jail is to stay off of drugs. What an outstandingly enlightening revelation.

I take this as a good sign; criminality in Chicago is confined to the druggies, not to a criminal elite or kids who think crime is cool.

A bit of surprise that Chicago tops the list, however isn't 70-75% of the criminals in jail drug addicts? Crack itself carries a minimum of 3 years imprisionment (20 years with a gun)- Honestly the average crackhead is dangerous/ crazy, but most of which don't own/have a firearm. With that said we have a bunch of crackheads and dope addicts in prison instead of more dangerous criminals (Reagan's War on Drugs  ). Drug addicts that are arrested for non-violent crimes should have some type of rehabilitation instead of prison terms. |
