What's wrong with people moving here from Michigan and Iowa? What, it's only OK if you move here from Kiltimagh or Lodz? Man, this city needs new blood, all cities do. Some old and some new, that makes a city interesting.

I agree tom, although it would be nice if these folks didn't seem to all self-segregate into a few northside neighborhoods.
btw, what neighborhood do the locals call 84th and Kedzie?

Thanks for correction. I was going by memory -- always get those streets confused. Pizza is definitely pretty decent. The "time travel" aspect though fascinates me. Really seems like it's from a different era.

thats true..but one of these days we might get a mayor that wants to put a halt/slow down gentrification..i think thats a possibility

So you narrow down real Chicago with only two neighborhoods. I think it is safe to say a large portion of the entire southside are populated by native non yuppie people. I actually don't mind a few southside neighborhoods becoming yuppie/hipster section. At least they can help the southside current reputation.

Maybe perhaps in Bridgeport itself, but that's a pretty major stretch even at this point. The vast majority of the south side is either very poor or working class black and mexican. Anyone who actually lives down here would beg for a yuppie invasion.

I agree. I think the southside can benefit seeing a yuppie/hipster invasion in neighborhoods that desperately need it. As for this fear of the whole southside becoming yuppieville or a identical twin of the Northside is unrealistic. The southside land mass is the size of Detroit or Philly and stretch all the way to 136th St. By that alone, I can't imagine even half of the southside becoming gentrified.
Most of the gentrification on the southside is happening between the South Loop and Hyde Park(already gentrified). I'm sure many so called yuppies and hipsters aren't willing to go further south than that.
