bridgeport/canaryville (high school, college, wages)

I myself would rather see Bridgeport get some hipsters and yuppies moving in than it going into a full scale whiteflighted ghetto. Too much white and/or middle class flight has really hurt Chicago and even some of the older blue collar inner ring burbs and things do not seem to be improving ( look what is happening in Hegewisch}. Options keep running out for blue collar Joe. He cannot afford the newer car oriented suburbs or exurbs. If this continues and gas prices keep on soaring and the auto industry being in the shape it's in ,it does not look too good for the hardworking blue collar guys and their families. They have voices that is not being heard and declining neighborhoods is a very serious issue for them.

my parents still own our family home on morgan st and me and my girlfriend rent our own place over on union and my aunt n uncle have their place over by 43rd in canaryville but more or less id hate to see the neighborhood turn into a lincoln park full of hipsters but then again id also hate to see it turn into a brighton park or little village and thats sad whats happening in hedgewich i always loved that area

i know i really hate it when the hipsters come in because theyre just no fun to hang out with and theyre all these scummy people but even worse is the yuppies i cant stand them and dont want them coming anywhere near my neighborhood if they do im going to do everything i can to kick them out yuppie scum theyre the worst except for the hipster yuppies who are the absolute worst but also tough to find since its a weird combination of different types of people

^^not really. most of the hipsters i know are the children of yuppies and had an upper middle class upbringing. many are still being bankrolled by their parents as well.

did anyone read the article in the suntimes or tribune about three years ago on Canaryville? It said, if I recall correctly, that a lot of Canaryville residents are addicted to crack and are pretty much illiterate (in a nut shell).

Literacy is a major problem throughout the south side and it's not usually related to drug use. Can you find a link to the article?
