Because when you employ HipsterIronyLogic™, ugly is the new beautiful.
That said, as a semi-regular at a handful of hipster hangouts, I can attest that there are some stone hotties out there who could knock anyone dead were it not for their goofy fashion sense.

Must be nice to be able to dress so stupid with out a care. My parents said "we're done" after college, so I have to dress like you know, some one who has a job.

It seems many take jobs where the employer will tolerate their sense of fashion if they agree to work for low wages and act with proper servility, like Starbucks and Whole Foods.

Most hipsters are still at their parents teet. Starbucks and whole foods can not support a life style of smoking pot, drinking absynth and pabst, and living and or partying in wicker park.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are also the kids who wear these damn skinny jeans and have multi colored streaks in their hair? The ones who sit around discussing indie films and music? The ones who actually don't know a damn thing about literary theory and criticism?
